"Sheep shearing" festival takes place once a year in June, in the Animal Market of the Southern Province Syunik.
This year it will be held on the 9th of June. Please take into consideration that random people are not allowed to participate in the shearing process itself, as the process is carried out by professionals, in order not to hurt the animals. After the main process, the wool is not thrown away, it is being used in rug weaving, producing eco blankets and matrasses. The best "sheep shearers" from different regions of Armenia take place in competition. There is also an exhibition and fair, where local producers of Vayots Dzor and Syunik provinces represent their products. By taking part in this festive experience you will have an interesting encounters with new people, taste the best specialties of Armenian cuisine, enjoy Armenian folk music and dance, and also do not miss the opportunity of visiting the Tatev Monastery, where you can take the longest reversible cableway in the world.
