Denis Donikian: I was also in Armenia!
Hiking tour through the highlands of Syunik
(from French by Christa Nitsch).
This travel book is a description of the ancient pathways of Armenia, where encounters with landscapes, historical buildings and people are represented.
Far from being a simple journalistic accountability report, it combines love, poetry, ethnographic sketches, spiritual quests and sociological questions. The author demonstrates his sense of humor, he criticizes and he marvels -depending on the observed phenomenon. Thereby, ‘‘I was also in Armenia’’ turned into a polyphonic song. Steps of a wanderer, his vision and word traverse a specific region of Armenia: from the city of Sissian to the village of Tatev – the hiking route and reading path takes readers through the craggy country, passing by isolated hamlets in unknown and unchartered areas.
