Noravank

The admirable Noravank Monastery, "New Monastery’’ is located in a gorge of the Amaghu River, opposite to a jagged cliff glittering bright red in the sunlight. The monastery has the colors of milk and honey. It belongs amongst the most enchanting buildings of Armenia.

The monastery complex was mainly built in the 13th century by the Orbeljan family, princes of Syunik. It stands as a symbol of the Holy Baptist. Surrounded by a wall, the monastery complex includes two churches, a gavit, a chapel and many khachkars (cross-stones).
